Hello, Tacoma! Coming soon: our fifteenth donor center

Bloodmobiles give more people access to the lifesaving act of donating blood. We can get into the community to meet donors where they are — at their place of work, play, study, or worship.

For those who prefer a more consistent experience or additional donation opportunities, such as platelet and plasma donations, Bloodworks relies on our fourteen donor centers — soon to be fifteen

As our Mission in Motion campaign heats up, we’re also bringing an exciting new opportunity to our Pierce County donors: a Tacoma donor center in the West End, opening in 2026, conveniently located and easily accessible for donors from Ruston to Lakewood and Gig Harbor to Downtown.

After nearly eight decades of partnering with thousands of Pierce County donors to deliver lifesaving blood, Cascade Regional Blood Services closed its doors in 2024, leaving many donors without convenient access to a local donor center. Many of these currently make the drive to Bloodworks’ Puyallup or Federal Way locations and have been patiently awaiting the opportunity to donate closer to home.

With every new Bloodworks location, we learn a lot about how to maximize our commitment to the community. Construction on the Tacoma donor center follows a similar model that we used with our Puyallup Donor Center: utilize our robust mobile program to set up a long-term blood drive in the space.

“It’s an interesting concept to have regular donors before you even open,” said Jeremy Tanner, Puyallup Donor Center supervisor. “I hear donors talking about previously traveling an hour or more to donate or that they used to have to wait for a bloodmobile to come back to their community.”

In Tacoma, we’re operating a pop-up donor center close to the future center to let our donors get to know the area and better get into the habit of regular giving.

“We ran pop ups three days a week (Tuesday, Friday, Saturday) before the center officially opened and those days have been consistently our busiest, even over a year later,” Jeremy said. “It’s much easier to plan giving blood into their day.”

The Tacoma location meets all our criteria: plenty of space and plenty of parking.

We’re excited to be in the Westgate shopping center, in the former Joseppi’s space, making it even easier for donors to work blood donation into their schedules before running errands or picking up dinner. Plus, we’re just doors down from a MultiCare Health clinic, a reminder of why this all matters: Bloodworks is the primary blood provider to MultiCare patients.
