Pierce County blood donors have a new place to amplify life!
After months of operating a pop-up donor center in a nearby space, Bloodworks celebrated the Grand Opening of our permanent Tacoma Donor Center in Westgate Shopping Center on June 9.
Blood donors, staff, and community partners enjoyed Top Pot Doughnuts, toured the facilities, and cut the ribbon of our newest location.

However, this site is more than just a building – it’s a representation of our commitment to the community. Bloodworks is the primary supplier of blood components and apheresis services to MultiCare hospitals in Tacoma and Pierce county.
“It is really a joy to be here, for this facility to be here in Tacoma, in Pierce County, and in our region. It’s such a huge need,” said Tom Pierson, President & CEO of the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber of Commerce. “Sometimes you’re helpless in terms of, what do you do for your friend or family? And this is a great resource, here, to be able to donate to folks that need this the most.”

Boden Clark is one of these folks. Boden’s life turned upside-down when he was diagnosed with high-risk acute lymphoblastic leukemia at age 16.
“The cancer cells had taken over my bone marrow and were literally pushing my bones from the inside out,” Boden told the audience. “When the doctors tested my blood, they found that 98% of it was cancer. And that day, I received my first lifesaving blood transfusion.”
Boden received more than 30 blood and platelet transfusions during his first year of chemotherapy, with more to come during his three-and-a-half-year path to remission.
“That is why centers like these are so important,” Boden emphasized. “They strengthen our community. They ensure lifesaving resources are available when they are needed, and they create opportunities for ordinary people to make extraordinary differences.”

Now, 22, Boden plays lacrosse in college and has a bright future ahead of him.
“You don’t need a title, a platform or a grand gesture to change the world,” Bloodworks President & CEO Curt Bailey reminded the audience. “Sometimes, all it takes is an hour of your time and a willingness to help.”
