Let’s be honest: no one likes a long commute. When you give blood, you may have to set aside only a few minutes to get to the nearest donation center or drive—but what if the nearest Bloodworks was over an hour away? That’s the reality for many would-be blood donors in our rural and tribal communities… but you can help us shorten their trip.
Before the pandemic, mobile blood drives were the backbone of our community blood supply. Now, many of our existing bloodmobiles are over a decade old with rising maintenance costs and decreasing reliability, all while the gap between collections and demand continues to widen. Our aging fleet leaves too many willing donors without a convenient place to give. We’re simply not able to go as far — or serve as many communities — as we once could. As a result, patient need for blood outpaced local collections by more than 10,000 units in 2024. That’s a gap we can’t afford to ignore.
The solution is right in front of us: bring donation opportunities deeper into our communities through a revitalized blood drive program.
So we’re rolling out Mission in Motion, Bloodworks’ new initiative to make blood donation easier, more accessible, and closer to home for everyone in the Pacific Northwest.
Mission in Motion envisions a brand-new fleet for Bloodworks. That means raising funds for new bloodmobiles, trucks, and equipment that offer modern amenities, reliable transportation, and a safe space to donate. But we won’t be able to do that without your critical support.
Help Bloodworks keep our Mission in Motion by supporting the purchase of our next community bloodmobile. Give a financial gift today.
With your support, we’ll be able to purchase and equip a brand-new four-bed bloodmobile, on which we can host up to 250 blood drives a year and collect over 5,000 units of blood annually.
But your impact is bigger than numbers. This bloodmobile will bring donation opportunities to places we currently can’t reach: rural communities, underserved areas, and growing neighborhoods where donors want to help but don’t have access.
And these new bloodmobiles are designed to do more than collect blood. They welcome first-time donors, encourage return visits, and help build a culture of giving across our region.
Most importantly, your investment saves lives. It will make sure that when the next mother, father, sibling, or child needs a transfusion, blood is already there—because someone nearby was given the opportunity to give.
Thanks to a powerful boost from our foundation partners and legacy donors, the first of our Mission in Motion bloodmobiles is fully funded and expected to hit the road next year. It will bring a modern, welcoming, and reliable donation experience to communities across our region. By replacing just this one vehicle in our fleet, we’ll be able to host 50 more blood drives each year, collecting over 1,500 additional units of blood. But you know the importance of blood in our community, and we can’t stop there. We must continue to modernize our blood drive fleet one vehicle at a time, and we need your help.
We’re turning to you, our most committed supporters, to help us fund our next new bloodmobile.
This campaign is about more than a vehicle. It’s a lifeline: one that brings our mission directly into schools, workplaces, and communities where donors live.
Your gift today will directly support our second new bloodmobile, helping to eliminate travel barriers for donors and making it easier than ever to say “yes” to saving lives.
