It’s a privilege to share with you the life and legacy of Jim Mondt, a loving grandfather, Seattle local, dedicated sports fan, and a long-time Bloodworks supporter. Jim’s generosity saved hundreds of lives, a legacy that inspires us to honor the impact one person can make.
James “Jim” Mondt of Auburn, Washington, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2025. He was born in Seattle, Washington, on January 13, 1947, to Albert and Gerry Mondt, alongside his twin Janet. He graduated from Issaquah High School in 1965 and went on to enlist in the United States Army, where he trained as an air traffic controller during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1970 and soon after began a 34-year career with the Seattle Air Route Traffic Control Center in Auburn.
In retirement, Jim spent his days doing the things he loved most: cheering on the Seahawks, Huskies, Mariners, and Thunderbirds, supporting his grandkids’ sports, his part-time work at the ShoWare Center in Kent, tending his raspberry plants, puttering in the garage, and planning roadtrips.
One of Jim’s most steadfast commitments was donating blood, inspired by his father, who was also a regular blood donor.
Over the course of his lifetime, Jim gave 240 pints, enough to help save up to 720 lives.
He was also a dedicated financial supporter of Bloodworks for 20 years, giving to the purchase of our Whatcom County mini bus, raising a paddle at the Bloodworks Ball, and generously answering the call during COVID-19.
Jim’s quiet philanthropy is a remarkable testament to his compassion and commitment to helping others, and Jim’s decades of giving blood and financial contributions have left an extraordinary legacy that we are proud to honor.
Our team is grateful to have known and counted Jim as part of our community.
“Jim always came in to donate blood with a smile on his face. He genuinely cared about how our days were. He was a ray of light and brightened our day. His legacy will live on in all he contributed to Bloodworks NW and for the hundreds of patients in our community whose lives he saved. His presence will be deeply missed, but his warmth and generosity will be in our hearts forever.” – Juli S., Donor Services Regional Manager
Jim’s story is a powerful testament to how a lifetime of simple, consistent giving can change countless lives. His generosity and commitment to bringing hope to patients in need remains an important part of our story, and his legacy will continue to inspire our mission.
From all of us at Bloodworks, thank you Jim.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Bloodworks Northwest, or that a pint of blood be donated in Jim’s honor. Please visit our website to learn how to donate.
